Photography Terms & Image Use

Clear terms for how your photographs can be used.

I want clients to be able to use the photographs they hire me to create. These terms are meant to keep that use practical and clear, without making the process more complicated than it needs to be.

Events & Conventions

Use the images to promote the event and your organization.

Event and convention photography is created to be shared. My goal is to give the hiring client broad, useful promotional rights while keeping ownership and third-party use clear.

Your Image Use

The hiring client receives a broad, non-exclusive license to use the delivered photographs for its own business, promotional and editorial purposes. This includes websites, social media, advertising, brochures, email marketing, press releases, presentations, future event promotion, sponsor or attendee communications and internal business use.

Ownership

I retain copyright to the photographs unless I specifically transfer ownership in a separate signed written agreement. The client is receiving permission to use the images, not purchasing the copyright itself.

Sharing With Others

Images may be shared in connection with the event, including normal publicity and event-related communications. The photographs may not be sold, separately licensed, transferred or provided to an unrelated third party for that party’s independent commercial use without my permission.

Normal Marketing Changes

Reasonable cropping, resizing, placement of text or logos and formatting for websites, social media and marketing materials are permitted. Photographs should not be materially altered or manipulated in a way that misrepresents the image or my work.

My Portfolio Use

Unless we agree otherwise in writing, I may use selected photographs from the assignment in my portfolio, WileyPhotos.com, social media and other materials promoting my photography. If confidentiality or privacy requires restrictions, please let me know before the assignment.

Assignment Details

Venue access, credentials, parking, schedule, delivery timing, payment, cancellation and any special requirements are confirmed for the specific assignment. The client is responsible for arranging access and permissions needed for the requested coverage.

Request Event or Convention Photography

Real Estate

Use the photographs to market the property, with clear rules for reuse.

Real estate photographs can remain commercially useful long after the original listing is finished, so this license distinguishes normal past-work promotion from putting the photographs back into service for a new transaction.

Property Marketing License

The hiring client receives a non-exclusive license to use the delivered photographs to market the specific property for which the images were commissioned. Normal uses include MLS, listing websites, social media, brochures, email, advertising and other marketing related to the sale or rental of that property.

After the Listing

The original client may continue using selected property photographs for reasonable portfolio and self-promotional purposes, including “Just Sold” posts, examples of past listings, presentations and sales-history marketing. That does not extend the license to a new property transaction.

Relisting or a New Agent

If the property is later relisted, transferred to another agent or brokerage, marketed as a new rental, or used in a new commercial campaign, the photographs require a new license or my written permission. A new agent or brokerage does not automatically receive the original client’s usage rights.

Community & Area Images

My existing photographs of beaches, parks, marinas, landmarks, community amenities and other surrounding areas remain part of my image library. When supplied for a listing, they are licensed for use with that specific property and are not added to the agent’s permanent stock-image library.

Editing & Property Accuracy

Reasonable cropping, resizing, text, logos and normal marketing formatting are permitted. Significant manipulation that changes or misrepresents the property should not be made without approval.

Access, Preparation & Shared Areas

The client is responsible for property access and reasonable preparation before the shoot. Permission may be required for HOA or semi-private community areas. When access rules require it, the agent, homeowner or authorized representative must accompany me. Drone photography remains subject to weather, site conditions and applicable flight restrictions.

Ownership & My Portfolio Use

I retain copyright unless ownership is transferred in a separate signed written agreement. Unless we agree otherwise, I may also use selected images in my own portfolio and photography marketing.

Assignment Details

Pricing, payment, delivery timing, scheduling, cancellation and any special requirements are confirmed for the specific assignment.

Request Real Estate Photography

General Photography

Practical use rights based on the type of assignment.

Not every photography request fits neatly into an event or real estate category. For other assignments, the intended use is considered when the project is quoted and confirmed.

Personal Assignments

For personal photography, the client may normally use delivered images for personal sharing, social media and personal printing unless different terms are agreed for the assignment.

Business & Promotional Assignments

When photographs are created for a business, brand or promotional purpose, the client receives the usage rights agreed for that assignment. Normal business use may include websites, social media, marketing materials and related promotion when included in the project terms.

Ownership

I retain copyright to the photographs unless ownership is specifically transferred in a separate signed written agreement. A client license gives permission to use the images for the agreed purposes without transferring the underlying copyright.

Third-Party Use

Photographs may not be sold, relicensed or transferred to another business or unrelated third party for independent commercial use unless that use was included in the assignment or I provide permission.

Normal Editing

Reasonable cropping, resizing, text or logo placement and normal formatting are permitted when appropriate to the licensed use. Material alteration or manipulation that misrepresents the image or my work is not permitted without approval.

My Portfolio Use

Unless we agree otherwise in writing, I may use selected photographs in my portfolio, website, social media and other materials promoting my photography. Confidential assignments can be handled differently when arranged in advance.

A simple note about image ownership

Photography is created to be used. The purpose of these terms is not to make normal client use difficult. They simply separate the right to use delivered photographs from ownership of the underlying copyright and help avoid confusion when images are reused later or passed to someone else.

Questions about an unusual use are welcome. If an assignment needs different terms, those can be discussed before the project is confirmed.
